Patients say it all the time: "Tell me straight up", "I just want to know what's going on", "Tell me. I can handle it.". We don't dodge your questions 'cause we're mean. We do it because when you say you want the truth you have no idea what you're talking about.
They say the truth will set you free. What the hell do they know? The truth is horrible, frightening. The truth is more than you can bear. We're supposed to be straight with you, so be careful what you ask for when you walk into a hospital. Because when you find out what's really going on you may never recover.
I pazienti lo dicono sempre: "Me lo dica chiaramente", "Voglio sapere che sta succedendo" e "Me lo dica. Ce la faccio". Non evitiamo le vostre domande per cattiveria. Lo facciamo perchè quando dite di voler conoscere la verità, non avete idea di quello che dite.
Dicono che la verità ci renda liberi. Che cavolo ne sanno? La verità è orribile, spaventosa. La verità è più di quanto non si possa sopportare. Dovremo essere sinceri con voi, perciò attenzione a cosa chiedete quando entrate in un ospedale. Perchè quando scoprite quello che succede davvero potreste non riprendervi più.
