How Will the Crash Affect Calzona?
Grey's Anatomy Season 8 ended with a game-changing finale (Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight"). Even if all of the docs who were left stranded at the end of the season survive, we're sure the effects of the crash will be felt far into Season 9.
We're especially curious about how the crash will impact Calzona. There wasn't a lot of focus put on Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) relationship this season, but we think that might change next year.
Here are some of the ways we think the crash might affect Calzona — assuming Arizona survives at all.
It will probably bring them closer together: At least at first, we think Arizona and Callie will be almost attached at the hip after almost losing each other (again).
How will Arizona's injury factor in? Arizona was badly injured in the plane crash. We're not sure how that will play in, but we suspect it will impact Calzona in some way. She had exactly the sort of injury that Callie could help with, but Callie likely won't be allowed to operate on her because they are married. Will Callie spend a lot of time helping Arizona through physical therapy? Will something go wrong in surgery, leaving Callie feeling guilty that she couldn't help? Will something go wrong and then Callie jumps in to save the day despite the rules? There are a lot of possibilities.
The Mark factor: We also suspect Mark (Eric Dane) will have an impact on Calzona. In the worst case scenario, if Mark dies, Arizona will probably have to comfort Callie over losing her BFF. Hopefully that won't happen. But if Mark lives, we suspect he'll need the support of his makeshift family. Arizona and Mark have been getting closer anyway, and we suspect that fighting for their lives together during the crash will leave them tighter than ever. But will his potential need for attention end up messing up Calzona's relationship? It wouldn't be the first time.
